Frequently asked questions

Forehead or ear — which is more accurate?

Ear readings are closer to core temperature; forehead readings are quicker and need no contact. Use forehead for a sleeping child and ear to confirm a fever.

What counts as a fever?

The NHS treats 38 °C or above as a fever in adults and children. The TH1 shows a colour-coded alert at that point.

Can I read in Fahrenheit?

Yes — hold the mode button to switch between °C and °F.

Why do two readings differ?

Infrared readings vary slightly with distance, angle and skin moisture. Take two and use the higher one, or confirm with an ear reading.
