The OxMedi BP1 is an automatic upper-arm blood pressure monitor for home use. It takes a reading in under a minute, flags an irregular heartbeat, and stores results for two users so you can show your GP a trend rather than a single number. We make one upper-arm monitor, and this is why it is the right one.

We make one upper-arm monitor. Here is why it is the right one.

NICE guidance recommends an upper-arm monitor over a wrist monitor for home readings. The BP1 uses the same oscillometric method as the machine in your surgery, with a wide-range cuff, a large colour-coded display and a memory for two people. Nothing to learn, nothing to pair.

Questions and answers

Upper arm or wrist — which is more accurate?

Upper arm. NICE and the British and Irish Hypertension Society both recommend upper-arm monitors for home use because wrist readings vary with arm position.

How should I take a reading?

Sit quietly for five minutes, feet flat, arm supported at heart level, cuff on bare skin. Take two readings a minute apart, morning and evening, for a week before your appointment.

What do the numbers mean?

The top number is systolic (pressure when the heart beats); the bottom is diastolic (between beats). The colour bar on the display shows where your reading sits against the ranges used by the NHS. It is a guide, not a diagnosis.

What does the irregular heartbeat symbol mean?

The monitor detected an uneven pulse during the reading. If it appears regularly, mention it to your GP.
